Significance of Three

According to the Crystallinks.com/numerology, “the alchemy of three is
demonstrated by its power of multiplicity. For example, one gave rise to two
(1+1=2) and two gave rise to three (2+1=3) and three gave rise to all numbers
(3+1=4, 3+2=5, 3+3=6, 3+4=7, 3+5=8 3+6=9).” It is then written that 3 is the “number
of good fortune, multiplicity, and alchemy.”

Importantly, in the third paragraph of a letter to Messrs. Lee &
Sumner, Mr. Frankish requests a more prominent heading to describe the “Model Colony
of Southern California.” He highlights the following three: i) fine climate,
ii
) famous avenues, and iii) abundant water supply. However, one may argue with his third highlight.

Vincerò

I am back!  As Germans say, Guten Rutsch!” It means happy New Year. Literally, it means “a good slide.” Personally, I am a big fan of its literal translation. It makes me feel as if I am sledding between galaxies at warp velocity.

I hope that the 2019 space-time continuum- or Minkowski space- will be a great win for all. As for me, I started the year by listening to Puccini’s aria, Nessun Dorma. I can hear the aria now,

Set, stars! Set, stars!

At dawn, I will win!

I will win! (Vincerò).

End of the Year Speech

So 2018 has been one of the most fascinating years of my life. Many great things happened this year. I took on big challenges which will potentially shape the rest of my life. I had the opportunity to work with great CCEPS-CLIR people and learn from them. Above all, the words “Euclid Avenue” now has a special place in my heart.

Thank you everyone. Stay tuned for 2019 because it will be even better than 2018! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Presentations

I had the opportunity to attend
the CCEPS (non-CLIR) presentations on Wednesday. I was taken aback by the sheer
amount of information and historical photographs presented by the students.
What surprised me most was that even though I have been working with two of the
students, Marcus Liu and Justyna Misiewicz, I was not
really aware of the resources they were working on. Overall, a great

experience!

Rainy Days

Yesterday
it was raining like crazy.  It was a day
that won’t soon be forgotten.  I know
what Mr. Frankish would say…. something like “rainy days are great.” I know he
would be excited about it. I get it. I know we need rain. But I only
love rain in the movies.
In “the Shawshank
Redemption”
after crawling through piles of mud and trash, Tim Robbins
emerges into “a glorious, hammering rain that seems to sum up the spirit of
freedom.” But of course, that is just in the movies. Rain damaged my moccasin shoes last year. Yes, it was my fault for wearing them. But
really, if I was in a movie, I would still be wearing them this year.

Luck of the Draw

Are a series of random events part of a
larger equation? Last year this time, I started on a journey, which required a lot
of time and effort to complete. As I was reading Mr. Frankish’s letter to Mr. MacNeil,
written in August 1887, I couldn’t help myself but to remember how many times I
have whispered the same words to myself throughout these past months…. He
wrote,

“While more fortunate people are enjoying
themselves at the sea-side, in the Mountains or other restful places, I have been
toiling all Sunday trying to get out those precious statements…”

Thus far, I have enjoyed working on
Frankish letters. Maybe it was the luck of the draw that got me working on
these letters. Either way, it has been great getting to know him a little
better each week.

I don’t make assumptions when it comes to Mr.
Frankish’s business transactions. He counts dollars and cents. Tells us which
property and villa is on sale and writes colorful stories about “electric
railroads,” “exotic hotels,” and “water pipelines.” He throws words around like
“ditches” and “trenches” on New Year’s Eve, giving instructions tirelessly, while
everyone else is at a party. Basically, he is always hard at work.  I take him at his word. Yet sometimes, he is a
puzzle. Did he write “canon” or “cañon” trip? Did he mean to write a “canoe”
trip? You’ll be the judge.

Maybe he is just an old soul and I am just a
pampered brat swimming in the luxury of information technology… surfing the net…
googling this and that…. expecting autocorrect to help me look smart…, and; in
a nut shell I travel the world in
a quantum jump right from my sofa.

Actually a canoe trip sounds like lots of fun… it
is said to be
liberating, in
contrast to the “amenity-burdened lives we lead.” I will place this trip on my
bucket list!

Having jumped from Frankish
Letters book 1 to book 5 and back again (all over the course of this week), I can see that Mr.
Frankish had an entrepreneurial
spirit. According to
Marc de Grandpre, senior vice president of
marketing for KIND Healthy Snacks, “to have an entrepreneurial spirit, you need
people who think anything is possible and have the tenacity to accomplish it
.”

Halloween Ghost

Halloween is a great time for candy and chocolate.
For the first time, I even bought a witch hat to show my full support for all the
ongoing spooky stories and Halloween parties happening soon. Having experienced a few
paranormal activities this week, which escalated as I completed uploading the number
#200 of Frankish Letters Book 1, I became curious as to the significance of
this number. Maybe the ghosts were trying to tell me something. According to
the “Angel Number” website, number 200 is comprised of three numbers: “number 2
symbolizes duality and power” and 0 which appears twice is a symbol of “eternity.”
According to Stetson University, “
200 is
the smallest number which cannot be made
prime by changing one of its digits.” But the Bible Numerology
suggests that number 200 “deals with something that has failed.” Well, I actually do recall seeing the “failed to upload”
sign on the computer screen. Maybe the ghost was literally trying to tell me
something!
